About iME Grab Division
IME grab division specialize in complete refurbishment of waste and ash grabs in the Energy from Waste sector. We complete upgrades to hydraulics, grab bodies, petals & their associated components. Our vast experience and continued developments extend the life of these grabs from original OEM designs. Our transport can collect fully striped units or complete grabs, we provide on site labour to assist as required. Our fabrication team hold design to manufacture trolleys to transport your grabs on site. When petals are beyond repair, we can offer competitive manufacture of new petals at lead times that beat original manufacturers. The quality of our work, and our ability to complete all works under one roof at our dedicated grab workshop facility see us lead the way in the industry.
What does Grab refurbishment involve?
Once the grab arrives at our dedicated facility, we start the stripping down process. Each petal is detached from the body, and each pin and bush is removed. All these parts are inspected and a report of works compiled. Depending on the condition items are either cleaned and reused or in many instances, because of heavy use and extreme wear, they need either patchwork repairs or complete manufacture of parts.
Machining
- Turning new pins, nitriding heat treatment to harden
- Turning new bronze bushes
- Boring of petal pivot points
- Boring of body pivot points
- Milling of new tips
Fabrication
- Strip back petals to spine frame, flame cut new tips, laser cut new back and belly plates in Hardox
- Weld on new tips, back and belly plates
- Hardface over petals at major wear areas along the edges
Fitting
- Disassemble complete grab upon delivery by removing pins
- Fit new bushes and pins and reassemble upon completion
